Dominykas Vaitiekūnas is a performing artist: an actor, singer, creator of original songs and artistic projects, and head of the creative initiative NOT WHAT WE AGREED (original title – Mes taip nesitarėm). He completed his acting studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and for more than a decade has been actively creating roles in theatre and film, as well as presenting unconventional performing arts projects rooted in explorations of the unique expressive possibilities of musical theatre.

His work is marked by sensitivity to themes of emotional well-being and pressing social issues. Dominykas Vaitiekūnas is also widely known as a music performer—he has released two solo studio albums and spent nine years as a member of the popular Lithuanian music group Liūdni slibinai. In 2024, he began doctoral studies in art at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The most prominent work of recent years is the socially engaged inclusive performing arts project Mes taip nesitarėm, launched in 2020 and created in collaboration with the Deaf community. In this project, sign language serves as a source of artistic creation, enabling an exploration of the relationship between Deaf culture and music, while inviting hearing audiences not only to discover Deaf culture but also to rethink their own experiences of hearing and listening.

In 2024, the immersive audiovisual performance Mes taip nesitarėm premiered. Dominykas received an award from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania for excellence in cultural education. In 2025, professional performing arts evaluators granted him the Ministry of Culture’s award and the commemorative badge Boriso Dauguviečio auskarasfor innovative musical-theatre approaches designed for mixed Deaf and hearing audiences.

In 2026, an unusually formatted musical audiovisual album is planned for release, intended for both hearing and sign-language-using audiences.

In 2024, Dominykas Vaitiekūnas initiated—and in 2025 published—a methodology for training Deaf performing artists: HOW TO COMBINE SIGN LANGUAGE AND MUSIC?
